Stabilization of nuclear isovector valence-shell excitations.

Excited states in 138Ce have been studied via the 12C(138Ce, 138Ce*) Coulomb excitation reaction at 480 MeV. Relative cross sections have been determined from the gamma-ray yields observed with Gammasphere. The E2 and M1 strength distributions between the lowest six 2+ states up to 2.7 MeV enables us to identify the 2(4)+ state in 138Ce as the dominant fragment of the one-phonon 2(1,ms)+ mixed-...

The Isovector Quadrupole - Quadrupole Interaction Used in Shell Model Calculations with ∆ N = 2 Excitations

The effect of the " B " term in the interaction −χQ · Q(1 + B τ (1) · τ (2)), which was previously considered in the 0p shell, is now studied in a larger space which includes ∆N = 2 excitations. We still get a collapse of low-lying states below the conventional J = 0 + ground state when B is made sufficiently negative.

Vector-Isovector Excitations at Finite Density and Temperature and the Validity of Brown-Rho Scaling

C. M. Shakin Department of Physics Brooklyn College of the City University of New York Brooklyn, New York 11210 (Dated: February 29, 2008) Abstract Recent work reported at the Quark Matter Conference 2005 has led to the suggestion that Brown-Rho scaling is ruled out by the NA60 data. (Brown-Rho scaling describes the reduction of hadronic masses in matter and at finite temperature.) In the prese...

isovector GMO

How precisely can we determine the πNN coupling constant from the isovector GMO sum rule? Abstract The isovector GMO sum rule for zero energy forward πN scattering is critically studied to obtain the charged πNN coupling constant using the precise π − p and π − d scattering lengths deduced recently from pionic atom experiments. This direct determination leads to g

Probing the isovector transition strength of the low-lying nuclear excitations induced by inverse kinematics proton scattering

A compact approach based on the folding model is suggested for the determination of the isoscalar and isovector transition strengths of the low-lying (∆S = ∆T = 0) excitations induced by inelastic proton scattering measured with exotic beams. Our analysis of the recently measured inelastic O+p scattering data at Elab = 30 and 43 MeV/nucleon has given for the first time an accurate estimate of t...
